ATTAINS
The ability to adapt gait to meet environmental demands is crucial for safe and independent community ambulation. In the ATTAINS study will evaluate the efficacy of a gait training program to improve gait adaptability in individuals after stroke. In this training program, an instrumented treadmill with a set of challenging exercises will be used (the C-Mill).
The majority of stroke patients have a decreased ability to adapt gait to meet environmental demands. Examples are difficulty to avoid obstacles or to flexibly speed up gait in busy traffic.
A training program aimed at improving gait adaptability will be used on a treadmill with augmented reality. Individuals in the chronic phase after stroke will train during 5 weeks, twice per week. To evaluate the efficacy of this program, gait adaptability will be measured before and after the training, and compared to a control group.
After this study, we will evaluate how we can retain training effects up till 1 year after training.
This study started in march 2022 and will continue until the end of 2025.
