The Challenge CR study
This study aims to investigate quality of gait 1 year after a posterior cruciate-retaining total knee arthroplasty. We will investigate this 1) in the home environment using wearable sensors, and 2) during challenging tasks at a treadmill.
In this study we investigate gait in 32 patients with knee osteoarthritis. We will perform the experiments before they receive a cruciate retaining total knee prosthesis, and 1 and 2 years after surgery. We will compare these results with a group 32 controls, who do not have any complaints in their knee.
We will measure gait at home using wearable sensors, and in the clinic on the GRAIL, an advanced treadmill (see image). On this treadmill we will investigate gait during different conditions: level walking, walking on slopes, and during balance perturbations.
The project will last from 2020 to 2023.
