Oxycodone versus Morphine
In this study, we aim to investigate the difference between oxycodone and morphine in the development of long-term opioid use after an orthopaedic surgery.
Oxycodone has been the most commonly used (oral) opioid after surgery for decades. However, there are indications in the literature that oxycodone is more addictive than morphine.
The Sint Maartenskliniek has initiated a large cohort study with approximately 2,000 postoperative orthopaedic patients to compare oxycodone and morphine in terms of the development of long-term opioid use (addiction).
The inclusion for this study was closed in September 2024. We expect the first results in the fall of 2024.
