3D-printed custom-made acetabular implant
Acetabular revision is a challenging surgery in patients with major bone loss and poor bone quality. Custom-made implants are thought to be an alternative to handle large bone defects in previous failed reconstructions. Study purpose: to evaluate the 2-year follow-up clinical performance of a new custom-made 3D-printed titanium implant that is designed based on a detailed CT analysis of the bone defect.
All patients receiving this innovative, custom-made hip implant are prospectively systematically followed over time in the institutions’ hip revision outcomes registry. Pre-operative and follow-up data of 32 consecutive patients with Paprosky type 3B hip defects who received an aMace custom-made implant with a minimum 2-year follow-up, are included.
The primary outcome is functional status . Secondary outcomes include HR-QoL, pain in rest and during activities, and satisfaction with the result and with functional skills achieved. Radiologic parameters are measured and safety parameters, regarding complications and re-revisions, are derived from the registry. Clinical outcomes are evaluated over time. Study results are available by the end of 2018.
