Games to move
Many children with disabilities face challenges in reaching sufficient physical activity levels. This leads to negative health aspects. Yet, small amounts can physical activity can bring health benefits.
In this project we will design and evaluate a personalized intervention for children and adolescents with disabilities attending special needs education to enhance physical activity using ‘exergames’: games and apps that stimulate physical activity.
Exergames can be a fun solution to enhance physical activity. Unfortunately, playing exergames is less evident for children with disabilities. Therefore, this project is focused on children with disabilities attending special needs education.
During this project we will:
- perform research on the views, needs and possibilities of children, parents and other relevant stakeholders regarding the use of ‘exergames’.
- identify existing ‘exergames’ and their characteristics and match these to the needs and possibilities of the target group.
- develop a personalized intervention, in co-creation with the target group.
- perform research on the effectiveness of the developed intervention.
This project is running till September 2027.
