Acute pain after lumbar spine surgery

The aim of the research is to identify those patients who are developing acute pain after lumbar spine surgery, and provide insights into a novel locoregional analgesic technique.

This project (2020-2023) contains three studies:

  1. Gaining insight in the patient characteristics during the perioperative trajectory of lumbar spine surgery, by means of creating a prediction model from a retrospective database, the spine registry (WKR) of the Maartenskliniek.
  2. Determining which outcome measure is most pivotal for measuring acute pain after lumbar spine surgery. A Delphi consensus study will be conducted with experts in the field of pain treatment.
  3. A randomized trial studying the effectiveness of the Erector Spinae Plane Block in treating early postoperative pain after lumbar spine surgery.
